How do I sell some stock certificates I got from my divorce settlement? I have the certificates?
I received some stock from my divorce settlement and I would like to liquidate them. How do I find a broker (?) and how do I know which one to choose? I only have about 190 shares.

any brokerage house can sell them for you…however, depending on the stock, you might want to keep a few shares and keep them for a rainy day…who knows..you might have a future berkshire-hathaway that went from 180 to 100000 dollars per share twenty some odd years later.
190 shares can be easily sold for cheap at TD Ameritrade. Any amount of shares over 500-1000 of a coupel companies should be sold through a financial advisor at Smith Barney or Merrill Lynch.

You’ll need to open a brokerage account. I’d suggest charles schwab. Once you have the account open, simply deposit your certificate. Once it clears, you can proceed with the sale. Good Luck. See for more investment ideas and analysis.
